100% Transparent Crystal Clear Solar Panel

100% Transparent Crystal Clear Solar PanelApplied to anything from the surface of your smartphone to the the sides of a skyscraper, the possible uses of this innovation for everyday surfaces are incredibly wide-ranging.

Developed by a team of chemical engineers and material scientists from the University of Michigan's School of Engineering, this solar concentrator leaves a clear surface while collecting energy.

Unlike similar previous attempts, this project avoids coloration and distortion entirely behind: "The solar harvesting system uses small organic molecules developed by Lunt and his team to absorb specific nonvisible wavelengths of sunlight." The goal now is to iterate on the design, continuing to improve its efficiency, scale and cost-effectiveness toward eventual mass-production on surfaces both small and large.

Operating out of the normally-visible spectrum, they look effectively transparent to a human viewer. The captured power is redirected to and collected at th…

Arne Jacobsen's VOLA Faucets

It's worth noting that the architect-designed kitchen and bath faucet is not a late-20th Century novelty movement spearheaded by Philippe Starck. Arne Jacobsen, Danish designer of revered Mid-Century chairs (Egg, Swan, Ant) and award winning buildings, was the mastermind behind some of the most elegant and forward-thinking faucet designs—decades earlier. Jacobsen, who, like Frank Lloyd Wright, famously left no architectural detail—from light fixtures to light switches—unattended, was recruited in the early 1960′s by Verner Overgaard, owner of the Danish faucet manufacturer VOLA, to create a line of faucets that Overgaard hoped would burnish his company's reputation for innovation. Having envisioned a tap which revealed nothing of its inner workings, he found in Jacobsen, already a widely celebrated architect, an ally whose reductive esthetic sensibilities and intrinsic experimental bent matched his own. Jacobsen's first design for VOL…

Discussion of Design, and 3D Animation with Thiago Lima

My name is Thiago, I graduated in Graphic Design and I am a 3D autodidact. In recent years I have worked in 3D design for architectural projects and advertising campaigns. Currently I am focusing only on teaching workshops, online courses and consulting.

Discussion of Design, and 3D Animation with Thiago Lima

Novedge: What matters most to you in design?Thiago Lima: I think the most important thing for me is to correctly select the colors of the design, to capture the ideas behind the work. I'm not an architect but I often like to come up with some experimental projects, only for my portfolio. All I design in 3D is more related with my graphic design experience, so each project has a very deep study of composition and colors. Novedge: What is or has been the biggest influence on your work?Thiago Lima: I believe that vintage style is one of my biggest influences and that includes both the color palette used at that time as well as the decoration, objects, architecture and photograph…
